As from the strategic items identified in the prospective-strategic phase, the SMP(SD) project continues with the configuration of specific Working Groups / Lan Taldeak with the objective of analysing concrete areas of interest of Sustainable Development from a transversal, multidisciplinary and participative approach.
In this phase, the working groups carried out an in-depth analysis on the causes, reasons and characteristics of Sustainable Development, the degree of the effects and demands resulting from its implicit changes and the possible responses that could be had from our social and territorial level. Such analyses will be gathered in regular Progress Reports.

The six areas of interest analysed in this pre-congress phase were as follows:
The Working Groups start with the participation oof, approximately, 10 people and a coordinator per group who would lead the debate. The participating members are experts in the selected matters and fields of interest which cover various fields of knowledge, expertise and various origins. At the same time, the Working Groups have contributions elaborated by technical assistance in terms of documentation and can request thereto any information concerning best practices in each of the Working Groups’ areas of analysis.
The methodology followed is participative. Each working group contributes its point of view to the questions: “What is happening?”, “What can happen?” and “How does it affect us?” in each area of analysis, and the answers are compiled in regular Progress Reports.
The 6 Working Groups have a common agenda of monthly meetings (from February to October 2005), to be held in both separate and joint sessions, making it possible for there to be a transversal collaboration and exchange of ideas.
The Working Groups have a restricted area, that allowed its members to carry out an exchange of information and documentation in a continuous and private manner.
